In support to the National Greening Program (NGP) of the Philippine government and in celebration of the 122nd Anniversary of the Philippine Civil Service Commission, the Laguna University Community Extension Services Unit (CESU) conducted its first-ever Tree Planting Activity with the theme “Let the Change Begin, Let the Green be Seen”. The activity was joined by the different stakeholders of Laguna University such as Barangay Bubukal, students, alumni, parents, teaching and non-teaching personnel.
Mr. Anastacio RL. Cruz, Jr., Director of the Human Resource Management Office, facilitated the short program. The COED CESU Coordinator, Ms. Leah E. Perez, offered the opening prayer for the activity. After that, Engr. Paul Gerard Lasangre Cruz, Jr. gave an opening remarks in behalf of the Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Rosemarie D. Sabado. He stated the program objectives and how LU stakeholders will contribute and gain by giving back to the environment. He also emphasized the significance of working together to achieve the goals and objectives of the institution when it comes to outreach and community extension.
Hon. Florindo “Allan” DM. Damitan, Jr., Brgy. Captain of the LU adopted community, Brgy. Bubukal in Sta. Cruz, Laguna, gave a short message. He expressed his gratitude to Laguna University for holding such an event, which he believes is one of the most important things that can be done to improve the state of the environment. Hon. Damitan said that he is looking forward to collaborate with Laguna University with more projects and partnerships. To end the short program, Ms. Joselle A. Banocnoc, Director of LU CESU, expressed her appreciation to everyone who joined activity and contribute their precious time to be able to take part in it. She also mentioned that there are still a lot of CESU activities to look forward to. And also, the CESU Director is requesting for full support and calls for volunteer for their upcoming projects.
Following the short program was the planting of the 100 calamandarin saplings donated by the DENR-CENRO of Sta. Cruz Laguna through the initiative of Laguna University Mechanical Engineering Society (LUMES). Planting areas around Laguna Sports Complex were designated as follows: Infront of Gov. Ramil L. Hernandez and Oreta Building, LU Annex, and College of Engineering Areas, with 45, 30, 20, and 5 saplings, respectively. The activity took place from 7:00 and successfully ended at 8:00 in the morning.
