1st CCS VIRTUAL BENCHMARKING ACTIVITY HELD

On November 22, 2021, the College of Computing Studies (CCS) of Laguna University successfully held its 1st CCS Virtual Benchmarking activity via Zoom video conference. The purpose of the benchmarking activity is to gather the ideas, suggestions and best practices from various sectors that will set the direction for improvement of the academic program not just of Laguna University but also its partners in the academe. The conference was attended by distinguished participants from various sectors such as academe, industry, faculty, alumni, student, parent and CCS administrators.

The activity commenced with an opening remarks delivered by Prof. Numeriano B. Aguado, the Dean of CCS. He emphasized the importance of benchmarking in education and pointed out that it is about setting standards for process of evaluation that may be set for individuals or for institutions when placing themselves against others and is used to assess progress towards the attainments of goals.

Dr. Angelica M. Aquino, BSCS Program Chair presented the benchmarking topics and questions. Moreover, Mr. Edward D. Bustillos, Chairperson of Computer Science department of Adamson University and Dr. Alice Lacorte, Dean of College of Computing and Information Technology of First Asia Institute of Technology and Humanities (FAITH) shared their wide range of knowledge and expertise on how they designed their curriculum in their respective institutions. They also exchanged views on how they collaborate with experts and other stakeholders to ensure that their curriculum is broad and balance thus producing well-rounded individuals who can succeed in work and life in general.

Mr. Darrell Bacarro, IT Service Manager and Mr. Raymond Navaserro from Code Disruptors, Inc. shared the strengths and weaknesses that they encountered as industry practitioners in computing. CCS alumni, Mr. Jason Maceda from BSIT and Mr. Michael Reyes from BSCS talked about their industry experiences as well as the best practices in their organization while students’ representative, Ms. Hanna Samia from BSIT and Mr. Rustom Escasura from BSCS shared their insights about certain topics that would benefit the students of LU.

On the latter part of the program, Dr. Angelica M. Aquino and Ms. Joselle A. Banocnoc, BSIT Program Chair summarized the information gained from the participants of the collaborative benchmarking activity. Lastly, Mr. Marlon L. Atanacio, BSIT faculty member and the Placement, Alumni and Linkages Officer facilitated the awarding of certificates to all the participants as a gesture of appreciation for their active participation in the event. The event was hosted by Ms. Jenneth R. Mondez, BSCS faculty member and Head of Corporate Communication Center of LU. Indeed, the College of Computing Studies was able to meet its objectives, thus making the activity a successful one.
